Covid-19 Road Map Stage 4
Arrangements at the Cathedral from July 19th 2021
The Cathedral will continue to exercise all due care and we are asking people to help us to keep everyone who visits the Cathedral as safe as possible.
Worship
Seating
The seating arrangements in the Presbytery and Choir aisles and in the Border Regiment Chapel will remain as they are. The Canons’ stalls and the seats in the “well” between the Canons’ stalls remain closed to the congregation at Sunday services – both at 10.30am and at 3.00pm.
Face masks/visors
The Chapter continues to encourage the use of face masks by worshippers – unless someone is exempt – but recognises that the legal requirement for the use of face masks came to an end on July 19th.
Singing
The decision about congregational singing in places of worship has been devolved to local level. The Chapter has followed the debate about singing carefully during the pandemic and is pleased to resume congregational singing but asks that members of congregations sing while using face masks or visors.
Communion in one kind
The Chapter does not intend to make any changes to these arrangements during the summer period and will review the position in September.
Track and trace
The Chapter is not aware of any occasion when infection has been traced to a contact made during worship in the Cathedral. After due consideration, the Chapter has decided to discontinue taking the names of those who attend public worship in the Cathedral. The Cathedral’s QR code will remain on display for those worshippers who wish to use it.
Visitors
The Cathedral will be open each day between 9.00am and 5.00pm.
The Chapter, in line with other public bodies and retail and hospitality outlets, encourages the use of face masks by visitors to the Cathedral, at events held in the Fratry and in the Cathedral Café until people are seated.
Circulation around the Cathedral: there will be free access to the choir aisle and the presbytery. The ‘well’ between the Canons’ stalls will also be accessible except on days when a choir is booked to sing. The Treasury will be open – but is subject to a maximum number of visitors at any one time.
The maximum number of people at events in the Fratry Hall is now 120.
The Cathedral Café
Seating
Inside seating will remain at the present number to allow easy circulation and good distance between tables.
Face coverings – customers
The Chapter, in line with other public bodies and retail and hospitality outlets, encourages the use of face masks by customers in the Cathedral Café until they are seated.
Track and trace
The track and trace system is not mandatory from July 19th. QR codes will remain on display for those who wish to use them.
