APPOINTMENT OF CANON WARDEN
The Bishop of Carlisle, working with the Cathedral Chapter, has appointed, subject to the usual requirements
The Reverend Dr Benjamin Carter, Vicar of the Benefice of Haydon Bridge and Beltingham with Henshaw (Parishes by the Wall), and Assistant Archdeacon, in the Diocese of Newcastle, as a Residentiary Canon (Canon Warden) of Carlisle Cathedral.
The date for Benjamin’s collation and installation will be announced in due course. It is likely to be in the weeks after Easter, subject to any restrictions about public worship that may be in place by that time.
The Dean of Carlisle, the Very Reverend Mark Boyling, said:
“I am delighted to be welcoming to the Chapter someone who has a lively sense of the missionary potential of a cathedral and who will have much to contribute to our ministry and outreach. I look forward to working with Benjamin very much.”
The Revd Dr Benjamin Carter said:
“I am delighted to have been appointed Canon Warden and am very excited to be moving west along Hadrian’s Wall to become part of the cathedral community and wider diocese. As we live through the challenges and opportunities of this particular time, I am very much looking forward to working with the whole cathedral team as we serve God and bring the untold stories of the cathedral to life for everyone.”
