The Carlisle Cathedral Bell Ringing Team were thrilled to receive their certificate this week for reaching the finals of the Association of English Cathedrals’ Volunteer Awards 2025!
The team were nominated by fellow volunteers at Carlisle Cathedral and were entered into the Awards in spring.
David Steel, Tower Captain, said “We thank Canon Benjamin for presenting us with the finalist’s certificate.
We are very proud and a little humbled to have been voted by our peers to represent the volunteers at Carlisle Cathedral in these prestigious awards. We feel that we are part of a wonderful team at our Cathedral and hope that our recent achievements go some way to reflect the hard work and dedication of not only the bell ringers, but all the volunteers who give so much to the Cathedral.
The support and encouragement we receive from all the management, staff and clergy as well as our fellow volunteers is remarkable; there is a spirit of generosity and kindness in this Cathedral that makes every day spent here a special day.
We do our work mostly out of sight, (hopefully you hear our presence) but, we feel that we are part of a community, there is a real sense of belonging in this place.
We hope that our bells continue to sing out and that they bring you joy for many years to come.”
