Carlisle In 50 Buildings

As part of a year of celebration for our 900th Anniversary we welcome author and historian Paul Rabbitts on Saturday 5 March for a fascinating talk on the often-overlooked architecture of Carlisle’s historic buildings. Paul will be marking the publication of his latest book, “Carlisle in 50 Buildings”. In it, Paul explores fifty of the city’s architectural landmarks to discover its history, development and the changing way of life for its people. Both ancient and modern

structures are featured, which have been used for many different purposes and reflect a wide range of architectural styles. The city’s success is based on its industry, which has shaped its built environment together with the many historic buildings and new structures. All these are celebrated within this well-illustrated book. This engaging and accessible portrait of the city’s rich history and its architectural heritage will appeal to residents and visitors alike.

Published by Amberley Books in 2022, “Carlisle in 50 Buildings” will be available to purchase on the night of the event, and Paul will be signing copies. This event takes place in one of Carlisle’s most historic buildings: the Fratry Hall at Carlisle Cathedral.

Tickets: £10.00 (under-18s: £5.00)
All tickets include a welcome glass of Prosecco (or juice).
