The Cathedral Music Trust announced on Thursday 26th May 2022, that it has awarded a total of £400,000 in grants to support high-quality music provision at 22 choral foundations across the UK.
The 2022 grants programme was set up to sustain and expand the work of leading choirs within cathedrals and churches across the UK, enabling this world-renowned musical heritage to evolve and thrive, and to inspire future generations.
Carlisle Cathedral is very pleased to receive one of the grants the Cathedral Music Trust announced yesterday. The grant of £4,300 will be used to help meet the costs of an Organ Scholarship.
This scholarship provides very valuable experience for someone exploring a career in cathedral and church music. At Carlisle, the Organ Scholar quickly becomes an important member of the small music staff team and regularly takes a part in the training of young choristers and in accompanying on the organ regular sung services.
