Regular Giving
Faithful, regular giving is an important part of our Christian discipleship. By pledging to give regularly, you are supporting the Cathedral on a regular basis and securing its life of worship and service into the future.
By joining the PGS Regular Giving scheme, you will not only be enabling the flourishing of our worship, music and mission, but also supporting critical conservation work to the fabric of this historic site.
Through Regular Giving, we help support God’s mission. Giving our time can help create places of welcome and hospitality, where people can connect with God through prayer, worship and fellowship. Regular financial giving resources the Cathedral’s mission and ministry, and enriches the life of the Cathedral as we grow in a community of faith.
Every gift we receive is treasured and used wisely to support our work and mission.

If you are a UK tax payer, please ‘gift aid’ your regular donation. This will increase your donation by 25% at no extra cost to you.
How is the Cathedral funded?
Several income streams come together to fund our work and mission. The most significant are:
- regular donations
- visitor donations
- grants and partnerships
- commercial trading
- gifts in wills
- property rentals
- Church Commissioners
- investment income
Where does my donation go?
Carlisle Cathedral’s expenditure is divided between several areas. We spend at least 70% of our annual budget simply to open the building safely.
The rest of our income is spent on our music and ministry work, learning and engagement programmes, the costs of our small staff team and ensuring that the heritage and fabric of the Cathedral and all the precinct buildings are conserved for the future.
How to give
The Parish Giving Scheme is an independent charity endorsed by the Church of England and offers a simple and secure way to give regularly. You can set up your donation online.
Through regular pledged giving, you are able to support Carlisle Cathedral to resource our mission and ministry, and to grow in our discipleship as we continue to build a generous church. Regular, pledged giving gives us the confidence to budget for the care and maintenance of our beautiful buildings, for the resourcing of our worship and mission, and for the securing of the Cathedral’s future.
What happens when we give?
All our giving is destined for the Cathedral’s general fund, along with other forms of the Cathedral’s income, before being distributed to areas of the Cathedral’s life and mission: our daily worship and music underpins all we do as a living church, our care of fabric helps to preserve our buildings, our central staffing enables us to welcome and engage with all those who visit us.
As part of our commitment as a generous church, we give 10% of the pledged giving scheme total to nominated charities each year. More information about our nominated charities and local partners can be found here.
Community and Worshippers’ Roll
In accordance with the Cathedrals’ Measure 2021, Carlisle Cathedral maintains two rolls of persons involved in its life: 1. A Community Roll for members of the Cathedral Community, e.g. stakeholders, staff, volunteers, and committee members; 2. A Worshippers Roll for members of the Cathedral Community who regularly participate in public worship at Carlisle Cathedral. You can find out more here.
