It was wonderful to welcome Jonathan, CEO of the Cathedral Music Trust to Carlisle Cathedral on Sunday 18 May as part of his epic cycling challenge covering 2,700 miles, visiting 100 choirs, in just 50 days.
Jonathan cycled from Hexham Abbey to join us in time for Choral Evensong on the Sunday afternoon, where he met with our Canon Warden, The Revd Canon Dr Benjamin Carter (pictured below), Director of Music, Mr Mark Duthie, and members of our Choir.
Jonathan is completing this journey to raise funds for the Cathedral Music Trust. He says “I’m raising vital funds for Cathedral Music Trust, so we can continue to support cathedral musicians and choirs through our programmes – including the Cathedral Music Support Programme and Church Choir Award. In 2024, we invested £500,000 in the sector, giving grants to 28 Anglican and Roman Catholic music departments across the UK.”
