Smith of Derby have completed the restoration of the Carlisle Cathedral’s historic clock.
Two major aspects of restoration work took place between January and July 2023:
- Maintenance of the clock’s internal mechanisms replacing the autowind system, installing a pendulum regulator (PAR), and dismantling and fully cleaning all components.
- Restoring of the clock dial: stripping and cleaning the dialworks, priming, painting and gilding the clock hands and dial.
We are very pleased to announce that our clock is chiming once again, and returns to its important role in the Cathedral’s daily routines, work and worship.
