Carlisle Cathedral has received the news of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with great sadness and shares with the people of the City of Carlisle and the County of Cumbria their profound sense of loss.
The Dean of Carlisle, the Very Revd Mark Boyling, said
“Her Majesty’s long and devoted life has been one of the fixed points in the life of our nation and it is hard to imagine great national occasions without her gracious presence. Her visits to the Cathedral in 1978 for the Royal Maundy Service and in 1991 to mark the 450th anniversary of the new Foundation of the Cathedral are still cherished memories here. We join with people across the nation and beyond in commending her to the unfailing love of God.”
