Flowers in memory of Her Majesty may be laid by members of the public on the lawn in front of the great East Window of the Cathedral. Wherever possible, we kindly request that flowers should be laid without paper or wrappings.
A book of condolence will be available at the Cathedral for public use during the Cathedral’s opening hours from 9.00am to 5.00pm each day and during this period of national mourning special prayers will be said at all Cathedral services. Service times can be found on our website HERE. All are welcome at these services.
The Dean of Carlisle, the Very Revd Mark Boyling, said
“Her Majesty’s long and devoted life has been one of the fixed points in the life of our nation and it is hard to imagine great national occasions without her gracious presence. Her visits to the Cathedral in 1978 for the Royal Maundy Service and in 1991 to mark the 450th anniversary of the new Foundation of the Cathedral are still cherished memories here. We join with people across the nation and beyond in commending her to the unfailing love of God.”
