Leave a Gift in your Will
Many would like to contribute more to the Cathedral during their lifetime than they are able. Considering leaving a gift in your Will helps us look to the future with greater confidence.
A gift in your Will will ensure the work of our lifetime is continued into the future for generations to come.

Carlisle Cathedral welcomes all gifts in Wills, however large or small, and we promise to use such gifts to care for the ancient fabric of the Cathedral, ensure that the Cathedral is preserved for future generations and to make a difference to the communities we serve. Our Legacy Policy is to use gifts to help fund significant work, whether buildings, equipment, mission (including worship, pastoral care and education) or staff.
To find out more, please download a leaflet.
Since needs change over the years, we encourage you to leave a gift in your Will for the general purposes of the Cathedral rather than for a restricted purpose. We will discuss possible uses of your gift with your executors when the time comes, bearing in mind your known areas of interest in the Cathedral (e.g. music, buildings, children, mission) and the Cathedral’s priorities at the time. Alternatively, you may express a wish that your gift is used in a particular area, such as Music, Fabric, Learning or Mission.
Gifts will be used to make a real difference to the future mission and ministry of Carlisle Cathedral. We acknowledge gifts in whatever way the giver and/or their executors feel most appropriate in accordance with the Cathedral’s Gift Policy. Gifts can remain anonymous if the giver prefers.
We believe it is important for everyone to have a Will but we always recommend that individuals take independent advice and speak to a solicitor if they wish to write, or changes to, a Will. The Church of England provides general information at www.churchlegacy.org.uk. We ask you to let us know if you intend to leave a gift in your Will, as this help us with our long-term planning. Our leaflet includes an intentions form for this purpose. However, we fully respect your rights to remain anonymous if you wish.
If you would like to make a gift to Carlisle Cathedral in memoriam, please come and discuss this with us too. It can be a wonderful and appropriate way to remember a loved one.
In line with the Cathedral’s Gift Policy, we will never accept gifts which compromise the Cathedral’s ethical position, damage its reputation, conflict with its mission, incur excessive expense or burden, or put future funding at risk.
