A Prayer for Lent
God of all the world, you have made us for yourself and our hearts are restless till they find their rest in you.
Pour your love into our hearts and draw us to yourself: make our lives so creative, our love so sensitive and our witness so bold, that many may find their fulfilment in Jesus Christ our Lord.

The imposition of ashes will be available at both the 1230 and 1930 services for those who wish to receive this sign of repentance as Lent begins.

On 4, 11, 18 and 25 March, specially selected organ music for Lent will be part of the offering of the lunchtime Eucharist, beginning at 1215, played by the Assistant Organist, Edward Taylor.

with friends from the Heart of the City Mission Community. We begin our worship with a Procession of Palms from St Cuthbert’s Church and move to the Eucharist in the Cathedral.

We will use three great works of art to help us enter into the story of the Passion of Jesus. After each address, the Lay Clerks will sing Compline.

Special Exhibition on Screen: Easter in Art showing in the Fratry Hall on Wednesday 13 April at 7.30pm.

at which the Bishop of Carlisle will preside and those who hold the Bishop’s licence renew their commitment to ministry in the Diocese. Music is sung by the Lay Clerks.

1930 The Eucharist of the Lord’s Supper
sung by the Cathedral Choir, with address by the Revd Canon Dr Benjamin Carter. Followed by Watch of the Passion until 2130.
Good Friday

1030 Love Unstoppable
An act of worship for all ages in either in the Cathedral grounds (springtime weather permitting!) or the Fratry Undercroft. 30 minutes of song, craft, video and prayers.
1200 Meditation
Words and music for Good Friday sung by the Consort.
1330 Liturgy of Good Friday
The Passion according to St John and The Reproaches by Sanders are sung by the Cathedral Choir, with address by the Revd Canon Dr Benjamin Carter.
2100 The Cross of Lights
with music by the Taizé choir.

1930 Easter Vigil and Confirmation
The Bishop of Carlisle will lead this service at which candidates from the Cathedral and the Diocese will be confirmed and all will be invited to reaffirm the promises made at baptism. Music will be led by the Cathedral Choir.
Easter Sunday
Sunday 17 April
0800 Holy Communion
1030 Sung Eucharist for Easter Sunday
The Bishop of Carlisle will preside at this service and the Dean will preach. The Cathedral Choir will sing the Missa Brevis setting of the Eucharist by Kelly.
1500 Choral Evensong
Sung by the Cathedral Choir, including the Canticles (Dyson in D) and the Anthem (Ye choirs of new Jerusalem by Stanford).
