We would like to extend a warm welcome to David T. Shingler, who has joined Carlisle Cathedral as our new Organ Scholar.
David started to learn how to play the organ in the summer of 2017, under the tuition of his uncle, David Shingler, who was Deputy Assistant Organist here at Carlisle Cathedral in the 1980s and 1990s. The family connections to the Cathedral are strong: his aunt has also worked in the Cathedral office and his grandfather, Philip, was a deputy lay clerk here.
David will be playing the fine Willis organ and helping Edward Taylor, Assistant Organist, during services and events, whilst also supporting the choirs and day to day life of the music department.
We would like to thank The Ouseley Church Music Trust for part-funding the Organ Scholar role for this academic year, with a tremendous grant of £5,000.
