On Advent Sunday, the day when the 2026-2030 vision was launched, Carlisle Cathedral introduced a reusable service booklet for Sunday Eucharists during Advent, part of a programme to fulfil the strategic aims of that vision.
In place of a single-use, customised service booklet that was prepared and printed for each Sunday service, Carlisle Cathedral is introducing a series of reusable service booklets. There will be one for each season in the liturgical year, and they will be accompanied by a service sheet that gives the words of the hymns, readings, music and prayers that are specific to that service. Although Carlisle Cathedral will continue to produce a single-use, customised service booklet for special services, most Sunday services in the Cathedral will now use a reusable service booklet.
This change of practice is a step towards fulfilling Carlisle Cathedral’s new vision. It reflects the Cathedral’s commitment to adapt its practices to become more sustainable. It is also an expression of the cathedral community’s love for God and his creation, and our commitment to steward the precious resources that he has given us.
