The Cathedral, with the wider Diocese of Carlisle, welcomed a team of independent safeguarding auditors recently as part of a programme of audits taking place across the whole of the Church of England. Undertaken by INEQE Safeguarding Group, the purpose of these audits is to make sure dioceses and cathedrals are doing all they can to create environments where everyone feels safe, valued and respected.
Following the visit The Very Revd Jonathan Brewster, the Dean of Carlisle, said: “We are grateful to INEQE for a positive process, and we look forward to receiving their recommendations as we continue to learn, develop and sustain a safeguarding culture that enables people in all their diversity across the Cathedral and beyond to flourish.”
An INEQE audit report of the Diocese of Carlisle and Carlisle Cathedral will be published in coming weeks and will be available on the INEQE, diocesan and cathedral websites.
