An illustrated history of a remarkable cathedral ceiling.
Carlisle Cathedral’s iconic starlight ceiling has wowed visitors since it’s inception over 170 years ago. The fascinating story of the ceiling’s restoration and design, and of the iconography within, is detailed in this booklet by local historian and cathedral guide, Jim Palmer. Lavishly illustrated with colour photographs throughout it brings to life the story of one of the city’s most treasured landmarks and those who brought it to life, including architect Ewan Christian and designer Owen Jones.
