We are working hard to make our services and events as sustainable as possible.
Services
We focus our prayers on the environment at our Peace and Justice Eucharists, on the first Wednesday of each month.
As part of Carlisle Cathedral’s commitment to supporting the impact of climate change and environmental degradation on Christian communities in the world, we contribute part of the pledged giving income each year to charity. This year, one of our chosen charities is Christian Aid. For more information about becoming a pledged giver, please follow this link.

Farmers’ Markets
Our monthly Farmers’ Market includes a free stall run by Sustainable Carlisle, where you can give away your unwanted items and search their treasure trove for freebies! For more information on the Farmers’ Markets, see our dedicated page.

Past Events
- We hosted another community litter pick on Tuesday 11 June 2024 as part of the Great Big Green Week.
- On Thursday 4 July, staff from Carlisle Cathedral supported the Give a Day Carlisle initiative by helping out in the Tullie Secret Garden. Through rain and shine, the team from the Cathedral cleared weeds, renovated a vegetable patch, cleared paths and generally tidied the gardens. Thank you to Tullie for the very warm welcome.
- On Saturday 5 October, we hosted “For the Beauty of the Earth – an EcoChurch Celebration” in the Fratry Hall. Talks were given by A Rocha UK and the The Revd Canon Grace Thomas of Manchester Cathedral. Thank you to everyone who attended.
- In December 2024 we hosted our first Christmas Tree Festival. The Cathedral staff team decorated a tree inspired by the Cathedral’s EcoChurch journey by using recycled materials to make decorations. After the festival, the trees were chipped and used in the Cathedral grounds.
