Travelling to Carlisle Cathedral

Our precinct is an oasis of peace and tranquillity within the heart of the city centre. We have a range of green spaces to enjoy and find rest during our busy lives. The very limited parking availability within the precinct means we are able to encourage people and wildlife to enjoy these outdoor spaces with little traffic.

If you are travelling to Carlisle Cathedral by car, we encourage you to consider other modes of transport: the railway station and bus station are within an easy 10-minute walk. We recommend using this county-wide resource by Cumbria Tourism to help you plan your visit: Go Car Free

If you visit Carlisle Cathedral by car regularly for services, you may wish to consider offering to share lifts with fellow worshippers that you know.

Did you know? We have cycle racks along the west front of the Fratry building (on the Dean’s Walk) to help you to cycle to the Cathedral. We also have an e-bike battery charger for use in the Cathedral Café, thanks to Sustrans and Bosch as part of the Sustrans Hadrian’s Cycleway.
