We are delighted that Martha Alban has secured a place to sing as a Choral Scholar in the world-famous choir of Clare College, Cambridge, and to read for a degree in Modern and Mediæval Languages. The choir has a busy schedule of services, concerts, broadcasts and overseas tours which Choral Scholars fit in around their studies for their degree courses.
Martha has a long association with the Cathedral choirs, having started as a probationer chorister at the age of seven in 2015 and rising through the ranks to become Head Chorister from 2018 to 2021. After leaving the Cathedral Choir at the end of Year 9, Martha was a committed member of the Cathedral Consort for a further four years, also deputising for Lay Clerks on a number of occasions latterly.
Martha said “I owe so much to Carlisle Cathedral choir and Mr Duthie for all the support and encouragement over the years, and I am really excited for everything the coming years have to offer!”
We thank Martha for all she has given to the Cathedral and its music over the years, and wish her well for this new and exciting chapter in her life.
